Bastet, also known as Bast, was the Ancient Egyptian  fertility goddess, associated with pleasure and intimacy. Bastet was also a goddess of protection, believed to protect against evil spirits and diseases, she was associated with art,  creativity, music, and was seen as a master tactician during warfare. Bastet was initially  worshiped as a lioness, and over time transformed into a cat. Bastet was the daughter of the sun god Ra, and as such, was associated with the mild heat from the sun. Bastet was represented as a woman with the head of a cat.
